CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Lawyers for a neurosurgeon who practices in Wyoming and Montana have informed a federal judge they believe their client engaged in criminal or fraudulent conduct.

U.S. District Judge Nancy Freudenthal (FREE'-den-thawl) on Monday allowed Cody lawyers Bradley Bonner and Laurence Stinson to withdraw from representing Dr. John H. Schneider, Jr. in a defamation lawsuit.

Dr. Jimmie Biles of Cody sued Schneider last year contending he produced an anonymous flier disparaging Biles' medical practice. Biles also sued an Indiana woman and said Schneider retained her to distribute the flier.

Bonner told Freudenthal last month he had evidence that Schneider offered to pay the woman more than $250,000 to keep quiet.

Stinson and a lawyer for Biles told Freudenthal on Friday the lawsuit was resolved.

Attempts to reach Schneider on Tuesday were unsuccessful.
