The Society of American Foresters, along with the University of Montana’s woodsman team and the Historical Museum is hosting “Forestry Day” at Fort Missoula. This is the 15th year the Society of American Foresters has hosted forestry day and the 33rd year the UM woodsman team has competed. The day’s events will include a one-of-a-kind logging show where professional and amateur lumberjacks from throughout the Northwest and Canada compete. There will also be demonstrations of antique logging equipment, horse drawn high wheel logging demonstrations, steam-powered sawmill operations, antique farm and logging equipment and engines. Historical Chairman for the Society of American Foresters, Scott Kuehn says this event keeps lumberjack traditions alive.

Activities will run from 9 a.m until 4 p.m. on Saturday April 30th at Fort Missoula. Kuehn says a memorial tree will be planted at noon to honor William “Bud” Moore, a forest service legend who recently passed away.
