Missoula Celebrates National Record Store Day! Special Vinyl Releases Coming To Town
Saturday, April 12, is National Record Store Day.
Record Store Day is a biannual event established in 2008 to celebrate the culture of the independently owned record store... the day brings together fans, artists, and thousands of independent record stores around the world - Wikipedia.
I called our lovely, independently owned record stores in Missoula to ask if they'll have any special records available on Saturday.
And they did not disappoint.
Rockin' Rudy's Record Heaven
I spoke with Scott at Rockin Rudy's to see what they'll be offering up and what his favorites are.
"There's a new Wu-Tang [Clan], which is exciting... They're putting out the first four Harry Potter soundtracks," said Scott.
Rudy's will feature a heavy array of 90s music, but Scott says there will be something for everybody.
"There's lots of metal stuff going out, there's hip-hop, there's jazz, soundtracks. It really runs the gamut this year."
- Live Elton John
- Hindu Love Gods
- Queen Demos
- A-Ha demos
- Live Joni Mitchell
- Lo-Lome
- Live Morphine
- Grateful Dead box sets
- Wicked soundtrack
A national music day wouldn't be complete without Taylor Swift, right?
"There's a Taylor Swift 7-inch that I think will be a hot commodity," said Scott.
One that really caught my eye, err, ear, was Jeff Bridges, the actor. Scott says some "lost" Bridges recordings will be available, too.
Slant Street Records
Slant Street is taking a different approach. They won't have the regular Record Store Day releases, but they are putting out some gems.
"We put out 200 or so rare and hard to find records on Saturday," said Colin at Slant Street Records.

A few rare recordings that Colin mentioned were:
- Alice in Chains
- Sonic Youth
- Liz Phair
You'll find plenty of uniqueness at Slant Street this Saturday.

Ear Candy Music
Last but certainly not least, we stop by Ear Candy to check in with what they've got brewing.
"We've got hundreds of titles for this Saturday," said John from Ear Candy.
"There's live David Bowie... I mean, obviously, the Taylor Swift everyone's asking about."
John said that the "sleeper" of the weekend will be Kelsea Ballerini.
A few more than John mentioned were:
- Live Prince
- Day la Soul
- Gorillaz
- Charli XCX
- Post Malone tribute to Nirvana
- Live Talking Heads
John says Ear Candy will be opening an hour earlier at 10 am.
