Montana Shoppers Urged to Check for Recalled Cheese Bread

Recalled Product Alert: Check Your Freezer

Frozen foods can make dinner easy, but if you recently purchased a popular cheese bread product sold in Montana, you'll want to check your freezer. 

Champion Foods LLC of New Boston, Michigan, has voluntarily recalled certain batches of its Motor City Pizza Co. 5 Cheese Bread due to the potential for Salmonella contamination. The recall was announced after a separate recall involving milk powder supplied by California Dairies, Inc. raised concerns about possible contamination. 

Background on the Contamination Risk 

According to the company, the recalled milk powder was used by a third-party manufacturer that produces a seasoning blend included in the cheese bread's five-cheese sauce. While routine testing of the seasoning batches came back negative for Salmonella, Champion Foods says it is recalling the products out of an abundance of caution.

The products were sold nationwide at retailers including Costco and Walmart, along with several other major grocery chains.  

How to Identify the Recalled Cheese Bread

Consumers should check the sell-by date printed in black on the front of the package inside the cheese bread image. The affected products have sell-by dates ranging from February through April 2027.  

Salmonella is a bacterium that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, especially in young children, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems. 

Symptoms may include: 

• Fever  
• Diarrhea  
• Nausea  
• Vomiting  
• Abdominal pain  

In rare cases, the infection can enter the bloodstream and lead to more severe illnesses, including arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis.  

At this time, neither Champion Foods nor its suppliers have received any reports of illness or injury linked to the recalled products. The recall is being conducted strictly as a precautionary measure.  

If you have one of the affected products in your freezer, do not eat it. 

Consumers are encouraged to return the product to the place of purchase for a refund. Costco and Walmart customers can also contact the retailer directly for return information.
