The Summer Full Moon Is Happening

Over the next few days, it may not feel like we will get much nighttime at all. As we are heading toward the first day of summer, which also happens to be the longest day of the year, we will also experience the next full moon.

Montana is one of the best states to view nighttime events. We not only have some of the best viewing for the Northern Lights, but we also have one of the best locations for nighttime star gazing, and the occasional UFO sighting.

We are going to get a good view of the next full moon, called the "Strawberry Moon", tomorrow night. That isn't the only event happening. Tonight, the moon will be blocking out the red star Antares too, according to Space.com.

Western Montana experiences about 17.2 hours of sunlight during the summer solstice, according to Sunrisesunsettime.org. If the weather holds and we don't get any cloud cover, at least for the next few days, this should make for some amazing moon viewing. It also won't feel like we will be getting much darkness overnight.

The June full moon is called a "Strawberry Moon", because this is the time of year when wild strawberries were gathered by Native American tribes. It's also sometimes called the "Berries Ripen Moon" or the "Green Corn Moon", according to Timeanddate.com.

Over the next few days, take a glance at the sky and check out the moon it will be hard to miss.
