With the active fires near Missoula and our fire danger levels raised to "extreme" in Missoula County, there's a lot of information being shared.

Yesterday, Stage II Fire Restrictions were implemented in Missoula County and Missoula Restrictions Areas. Fire Chief Gordy Hughes sent out a FAQ to help the public better understand the expectations of Stage II Fire Restrictions.

The Miller Peak Fire, currently at over 2,000 acres, is now being managed by a Complex Incident Management Team and a new "helitech" base has been established in Stevensville.

As of July 15, the Missoula County Sheriff's Office set evacuation warnings for:

Th Sherrif's Office also encouraged people to register with SMART911 at smart911.com to receive the latest updates. As far as we know, the warning above is still the latest information regarding active evacuation warnings in Missoula. We'll provide updates should more information become available.

On July 17, Missoula County shared important clarification about evacuation warnings.

The important clarification in their post on Facebook is that you may not receive a warning before an evacuation order, and that there's not a lot of time to take care of personal items or move livestock if there is an evacuation order. That's what it's a good idea to sign up for Smart911.
