Probation Slip Leads to Drug Charges For Missoula Duo
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - At approximately 8:13 p.m. on June 24, 2026, a Missoula Police Department Officer was patrolling the area of West Broadway Street. The officer observed a green Ford Focus quickly turning from a public highway into the parking lot of Yoke’s, and noted that the driver was a male and the passenger was a female. The officer ran the license plate of the vehicle and found that the registered owner, a male identified as 32-year-old Kaylob Garfield, had a revoked driver’s license at that time.
Shortly thereafter, the officer observed the same vehicle driving west on Broadway Street and turning north onto Hawthorne. The officer initiated a traffic stop. As she walked up to the vehicle, she observed the driver, later identified as Garfield, staring at her in his driver’s side mirror and fidgeting. When asked for registration and insurance, Garfield stated that the vehicle did not have insurance. Dispatch told the officer that Garfield was on probation.
During this interaction, the officer observed numerous alcohol prep pads in the glove box. The officer asked the passenger, later identified as 19-year-old Hailey Habets, to step out of the vehicle. After she did so, the officer observed a loaded syringe on the seat where Habets had been. The syringe contained a tinted liquid which, based on the officer’s training and experience, was consistent in appearance with methamphetamine.

Habets stated that Garfield had been driving with the syringe in his hand. She told him to put it down, and he said he wouldn’t; she then told him to give it to her to hold it for him. Habets admitted to trying to hide the syringe from the officer.
Another officer, who by this time had also responded, spoke with Garfield. Garfield stated he had recently relapsed on methamphetamine. He stated that there were two needles and two scales in the vehicle that belonged to him but that he was not aware of any drugs in the vehicle.
Officers performed a probation search of Garfield’s vehicle and located a tourniquet, used hypodermic needles, and a small digital scale in a small backpack belonging to Habets, butane refill containers in the back seat, three small plastic baggies in the center console, used hypodermic needles and caps in the front driver door pocket, and alcohol prep pads in the glove box.
