National Weather Service Issues High Wind Warning For Western Montana

The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning for parts of Western Montana from 4 pm until 11 pm this evening for the Missoula and Bitterroot Valley. The forecast is calling for winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts that can reach 50 to 55 mph.

These high winds pose significant hazards, particularly for power lines, which could be knocked down, leading to power outages. Power outages are expected. Travel will also be difficult at during this time. High-profile vehicles, like RVs and semi-trucks should take extra caution while driving.

Missoula has experienced several windstorms earlier this year, including a historic wind event over the summer that caused widespread damage. Many trees and branches that were damaged during that storm remain untrimmed or removed. This could increase the risk of further damage if the strong winds knock down additional trees or large branches. Property owners in the area should be aware of the potential for falling debris, which could cause damage to homes, vehicles, and power lines.
