Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On May 26, 2026, Missoula Police Department Officers responded to the area of East Harrier and Tanager Way regarding a domestic violence incident between 54-year-old Robert Kirk and his cohabitant partner. Upon arrival, Kirk told the officer that his partner had hit him on the head with a cane. Both parties alleged that the other was the initial aggressor.

When Kirk was placed under arrest, an officer searched him. While searching the front right pocket of Kirk’s shorts, the officer pulled out a handful of items. While doing so, change and a pink plastic bag fell out of his pocket. As the officer set the items on the hood of the car, Kirk moved his right foot on top of the pink bag to cover the bag.

The officer told Kirk to lift his foot up. After Kirk removed his foot, the officer picked up a small, dime-sized pink plastic bag with a white crystalline substance inside. In his training and experience, it appeared consistent with methamphetamine. After the officer informed Kirk that he would be receiving another charge, Kirk stated, "Now you know we’re both doing meth."

After being advised of his Miranda rights and waiving them, Kirk identified the substance inside the bag as methamphetamine. He admitted that he stepped on the pink bag so that the officer would not find it. When asked how much more Methamphetamine was inside the camper, Kirk stated that his partner had a "sack" inside.

According to court documents, Kirk told the officer that when he stepped on the bag, he intended to hide it from the officer because he knew he would be charged with possession of dangerous drugs if he saw it.

The officer tested the suspected methamphetamine using the TruNarc Device. Before completing the test, a self-check was completed, which passed. The substance showed a presumptive positive for methamphetamine. The total packaged weight for the methamphetamine was .49 grams.
