BREAKING: Montana Grizzly Football Head Coach Bobby Hauck Announces Retirement
Montana Grizzly Football Head Coach Bobby Hauck announced his retirement today.
The story was first broken by Skyline Sports.
Hauck addressed the media today at a press conference at the University.
"Yeah, it's a hard decision... but for me it's the right decision," Hauck said on retirement
"I haven't enjoyed it enough... I don't want to do it anymore. It doesn't have the allure for me anymore." Hauck said on coaching in 2026.
UM Athletic Director Kent Haslam said he heard about 14 hours before the press conference at 10 am Wednesday morning.
Despite it being an abrupt decision to Haslam, Hauck thought about it for a while and didn't want to leave the program hanging on a thread.
"We have a team assembled here today at Montana that can win and win a lot next year," Hauck said about the Grizzly Football team.
"Montana football's in great shape. I love the Montana Grizzlies."
Wide Receivers Coach Bobby Kennedy is set to take over as head football coach.
"He's an unbelievably good human being. He's smart, he's got a great resume, unbelievable experience. The best thing about BK is that he's really good with people. Everybody loves Coach Kennedy because he's a really good dude."
Haslam said Kennedy won't have an interim tag and will be the head coach moving forward, with a review coming at the end of 2026.
Bobby Hauck's Legacy
Hauck spent 14 seasons as head coach of the Grizzlies over two stints (2003-2009, 2018-2025). The Big Timber native became the all-time winningest head coach in Griz history AND Big Sky Conference history with 138 wins at the helm of Montana Football.
He won 8 Big Sky Conference titles and led the Griz to four National Championship game appearances.
In between stints at UM, Hauck coached the UNLV Rebels to a 15-49 record.
Someday, Coach Hauck will be inducted into the Grizzly Sports Hall of Fame. No question about it.
