Missoula Hellgate junior Luke Bewley is recovering after suffering a torn kidney on a tough hit during a game against Billings West.

Bewley was injured when he was blindsided on a special teams play in the third quarter of Friday afternoon's game in Missoula. He was throwing up on the sidelines and when he got on the team bus in so much pain that he could barely walk, a trainer called his parents and told them to take him to the emergency room.

A scan showed his kidney was torn in two. He underwent surgery on Sunday.

Bewley's football season is over, but his long-term prognosis is good.

He may be able to play basketball and should be able to play his favorite sport — baseball — this spring.
