The Hamilton Justice Center is open for business on West Main. The city’s Police Department, City Court and City Attorney have moved into their new offices – the former Hamilton National Guard Armory. Some landscaping remains to be done, along with further electronic work to connect with the Ravalli County Jail. But, for all intents and purposes, the police and city courtroom are out of City Hall on south 2nd and open for regular business hours on West Main, across the street from the Bitterroot College. The city bought the building an the adjoining Claudia Driscoll Park, following approval by city voters. The construction added rooms on the west end of the building and moved the main entrance to that area.
Police Chief Ryan Oster said the grand opening will be in July, after they’ve settled in and worked out any kinks in the system. A new 24-hour drug disposal box will be in service at the entrance to the new office, replacing another box at city hall for disposal of old household prescription drugs. The main hallway will soon include an historical display of Hamilton police artifacts, donated by the family of former police officer Bob Weber. That display is also coming out of City Hall.
