Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On January 5, 2024, at 9:27 p.m., the Missoula Police Department announced they were actively investigating a tragic incident involving a vehicle and pedestrian collision that took place in the 3300 block of Brooks Street.  

According to Public Information Officer Whitney Bennett, the incident occurred just before 7:30 p.m. 

“The preliminary investigation indicates that an elderly male was driving the vehicle involved in the crash,” Bennett said. “He is fully cooperating with law enforcement in all aspects of the ongoing investigation. Regrettably, a 44-year-old male pedestrian was struck by the vehicle and succumbed to his injuries despite prompt response and life-saving efforts by officers and Emergency Medical Services.” 

On January 8, 2024, at around 12:58 p.m., the Missoula County Sheriff and Coroner, Jeremiah Petersen, identified the victim as 44-year-old Tonnes J. Olson, of Missoula, Montana.   

“The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is currently underway, with both detectives and accident investigators dedicated to uncovering the details,” Bennett said. “Updates will be provided as they become available. The Missoula Police Department extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends affected by this heartbreaking incident. The community is encouraged to reach out to the Police Department with any information related to the case.”
