University of Montana star Lindsey Hall won the Big Sky Conference heptathlon title Thursday, breaking the school record with 5,360 points.

The sophomore from Missoula broke the previous record of 5,299 set by Suzanne Krings in 2003. She also won the pentathlon in February in the conference indoor meet.

In the three events Thursday, Hall had a mark of 17 feet, 2¾ inches in the long jump, then won the javelin at 131-10 and the 800 meters in a career-best 2 minutes, 21.35 seconds.

"I've been told since last year that I had this potential, but I've never seen it come through," Hall said. "After the 800 meters, I was leaning on the wall trying to catch my breath, and I saw my point total on the scoreboard. Let's just say it was a pretty emotional moment."

Hall moved to 16th on the NCAA list, putting her in good position to secure a spot in the 24-woman field in the national championships next month in Des Moines, Iowa. She's the Grizzlies' third Big Sky heptathlon winner in the last eight years, following Carla Breuer (2004) and Baily Cox (2007).

Montana State's Jeff Mohl was second in the decathlon with a personal-best 7,371 points, just seven points behind winner Sam Schur of Sacramento State.
