Golf Club and Anger Fuel Costly Damage at a UM Apartment
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On May 26, 2025, University of Montana Police officers were dispatched to a call for service regarding a gunshot at the University-owned apartments on Laurin Court. While en route, officers were advised that the individual was inside the apartment, breaking windows with a golf club, and was in possession of a knife.
Once officers arrived at the apartment building, they heard glass being broken. Officers went around to the rear of the building and observed a Native American male breaking out windows of a second-floor apartment. An unknown male in the parking lot advised officers that he “only has a golf club.”
Officers arrived at the apartment door, knocked multiple times, and demanded that the individual come out. One officer heard incomprehensible talking coming from the apartment. Officers then attempted to open the door, but there was a chain lock on it. Given the totality of information known to law enforcement, another officer kicked the door open.

Once the door was opened, a male, later identified as 22-year-old Camden Bullchild, approached the officers unarmed. When asked why he was destroying the apartment, Bullchild stated, “I failed, so I’m like f**k this place”. Bullchild was then placed in handcuffs.
Officers then entered the apartment to make sure no one else was inside. They observed that the entire apartment was in disarray. The refrigerator, kitchen stove, kitchen cabinets, hallway light fixture, and hallway smoke detector were all damaged. They further observed that the bathroom sink and multiple doors were destroyed, every window in the apartment was broken out, and there were multiple holes in the sheetrock that appeared to be the size of the head of a golf club. Officers did not locate anyone else in the apartment.

Bullchild was then arrested and taken to the Missoula County Detention Center. Bullchild was given his Miranda rights and agreed to speak to law enforcement. Bullchild said that he had damaged the property because he was mad.
The damage to the apartment is preliminarily estimated to be between $5,000 and $10,000. Bullchild is currently being charged with felony criminal mischief.
