The Reynolds Creek Fire burning on the east side of Glacier National Park has expanded rapidly over the last three and a half days to over 4,000 acres in size.

“Glacier National Park has lost historic Baring Creek Cabin,” Spokeswoman Denise Germann said.  “The Rising Sun Complex, Saint Mary Campground and Saint Mary residential areas have all been evacuated. Glacier County has evacuated the West side of lower Saint Mary Lake and is proceeding with the evacuation on the east shore of the lake.”

Germann said hikers and backpackers in affected areas have been safely brought out away from the fire, and there is a red flag warning for extreme fire danger currently in effect for all Northwest Montana.

Inciweb reports, "this warning means that critical fire weather conditions are anticipated, including strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures, factors contributing to the rapid fire growth."

Additional helicopters are coming in today, July 23.
