Fire Guts Business Near Hamilton, Cause of Fire Under Investigation
Investigators are still trying to determine what started a fire at a commercial building near Hamilton on New Year’s Day. Hamilton Volunteer Fire Department Chief Brad Mohn says firefighters were called at around 4:50 p.m.
"There was a structure fire on North First Street here in Hamilton and the Sew and Vac shop, there were no injuries and the building was unoccupied at the time," said Mohn.
When firefighters arrived the fire was quickly spreading throughout the interior of the building.
"The damage was quite extensive, it gutted the interior of the Sew and Vac shop," Mohn said. "Global Wireless, which is attached to it sustained some smoke damage, but that is it for that side of the building. the structure is still sound, it just gutted the contents."
The building is located right near Highway 93 and traffic on the highway had to be delayed for about 30 minutes while firefighters tackled the blaze.
