Drug Bust Nets Two Parole Absconders Each Held on $100,000 Bond
Two men, 37 year-old Jacob Alt and 35 year-old David Holcomb were arrested on February 16 by Missoula police after being found with a large amount of illegal drugs, cash and paraphernalia.
According to court documents the two suspects had hidden in two separate safes inside their vehicles 217 grams of meth in one vehicle and 314 grams of meth, heroin, pills and an unknown white powder, in addition to an uncounted amount of cash.
At Alt’s appearance in Missoula Justice Court on Wednesday, Deputy Missoula County Attorney Meghann Paddock asked Judge Landee Holloway for $100,000 bond.
“The defendant is an active probationer and had an absconding warrant at the time of his arrest and did not have permission to be in contact with another probationer,” said Paddock. “Mr. Holcomb was his co-defendant and the driver of the vehicle in which he was located. Law enforcement found over 180 grams of methamphetamine, a large amount of cash, a large amount of suspected heroin and suspected fentanyl along with an unknown powder, so there are significant concerns over drug distribution and community safety.”
Paddock also relayed a message to the judge from Deputy County Attorney James McCubbin.
“He requests and recommends that this defendant not be released to pretrial supervision, and notes that Judge John Larson previously set a $100,000 bail for co-defendant Holcomb, so we are also recommending a $100,000 bail for Mr. Alt.”
Judge Holloway set bail at $100,000 and ordered Alt to appear again on March 5.
