The Bitterroot Mushers seventh Annual Darby Dog Derby will be held this weekend on Gibbons Pass Road across from the Lost Trail Ski Area.

Bitterroot National Forest spokesman Tod McKay said on Wednesday, January 15, that the event will take place in both the Bitterroot and Beaverhead National Forests.

"It was organized here by local folks who have dog sled teams," McKay said. "Teams are coming from around the west for multiple different events. If you've never seen a dog sled race up-close and personal, it should be beautiful weather and a good weekend to check it out."

McKay said there are dog sled races for all ages and abilities.

"It all starts at 9:30 Saturday morning," McKay said. "There are both eight and four-dog class races at 10:30, and they even have a race for youngsters ages four to 12 that they call the Pee-Wee race that starts at one o'clock. There are different events going on each hour of the day."
