Montana’s Office of Consumer Protection facilitated the return of more than five million dollars to the state’s citizens last year.

During Consumer Protection Week, March 1-7, spokesman for Montana Attorney General Tim Fox, John Barnes, reminds Montanans that there are several programs available to help consumers.

"We're combating identity theft, deceptive advertising, illegal mortgage servicing, and many other phone scams that are perpetrated on the public every year," Barnes said. "We have several ways that people can get the help they need. They can click on our website and find our Consumer Protection office that way, and there's also a toll-free number, it's 1-800-481-6896.

Barnes said on the website, there are ways to register complaints against any business or entity that is attempting to defraud Montanans.
