Commissioners File Suit To Halt Megaloads

The Missoula County Commissioners voted unanimously this morning to force a halt to the upcoming megaload shipments from Lewiston, Idaho through Highways 12 and 200, because of insufficient analysis of the effects of the shipments on area roads and sensitive habitat. I spoke with Commissioner Jean Curtiss about the decision to file suit against Jim Lynch, director of Montana’s Department of Transportation. Curtiss and fellow Commissioners Michelle Landquist and Bill Carey agreed that the negative impacts the shipments would bring outweigh any possible economic benefit to the area. We’ll have more from Commissioner Curtiss on tomorrow’s Montana Morning show from 6 to 8:30am on KGVO 1290 and KLYQ 1240.
