Missoula High-Speed Chase on Broadway Tops 100 MPH
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On September 9, 2026, at approximately 1:03 AM, a Missoula County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant observed a sedan pass by their office with no lights illuminated on the vehicle. The sergeant quickly exited the parking lot, and as he approached the vehicle, it activated its lights. The sergeant activated his overhead lights and tried to conduct a traffic stop. The vehicle, occupied by a single male, continued to drive.
The sergeant then chirped his siren twice to indicate to the vehicle that it needed to stop. The vehicle continued to drive down the road at a relatively slow speed. The sergeant then activated his siren, and the vehicle continued to travel west on Broadway in the passing lane. Then the vehicle began increasing its speed.
Speeds increased quickly to 85 mph as the suspect passed through the intersection of Palmer and Broadway. The sergeant requested the assistance of the Missoula Police Department and the Missoula Airport Authority to stop the vehicle but continued pursuing the suspect.

Erratic Maneuvers: A Dangerous Pursuit
As the pursuit continued westbound, the suspect was driving erratically, changing lanes suddenly and turning their lights on and off. The pursuit passed under Reserve Street and continued traveling at speeds of approximately 98 mph. As the pursuit approached the traffic light at Mary Jane Boulevard, the sergeant observed a separate vehicle traveling in the same direction as the pursuit, which yielded to the shoulder of the roadway and had come to a complete stop in order to let the suspect pass.
The suspect vehicle began to slow down from just under 100 mph to approximately 70 mph. The suspect continued down the shoulder without any lights illuminated and narrowly avoided a collision with uninvolved motorists. The suspect continued westbound on Highway 10 West at speeds of approximately 90 to 110 mph. A deputy attempted to deploy spike strips on the other side of the airport, but the attempt was unsuccessful.
As the pursuit continued, the suspect began driving more erratically, jerking the wheel to make sudden lane changes and changing speeds from 70 to 110 mph. The sergeant requested that both Lake County and the CSKT be notified of the pursuit and requested their assistance. The pursuit then continued up Evaro Hill at approximately 80-100 mph using both lanes as it went up the hill. These speeds were maintained past the county line into Lake County.
A Sudden Halt: The Unexpected End
As the pursuit came into Arlee, MT, the suspect began slowing down tremendously to about 53 mph. Just before entering the intersection of Wessinger Street and Highway 93 North, the suspect suddenly signaled and pulled to the shoulder of the roadway, coming to a complete stop.
The sergeant immediately exited his patrol car and deployed his duty pistol, aiming it at the suspect in the driver’s seat and giving him commands to shut the vehicle off and put his hands out of the window. The suspect exited the vehicle and initially complied with commands. However, about halfway between law enforcement vehicles and his vehicle, the suspect stopped and refused to comply with lawful orders to submit to arrest.
The sergeant issued numerous use-of-force warnings, including several warnings about a police K9 being on scene and the threat of it being utilized if he failed to comply with lawful orders. Given the totality of the circumstances, a Missoula Police Department K9 Officer deployed K9 Zip to take down the suspect. K9 Zip bit the suspect, and an arrest team moved up to take the suspect into custody.
