Teen Driver Damages Soccer Fields at a Missoula Park

Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On September 13, 2026, at approximately 12:20 a.m., Missoula Police Department officers were dispatched to Playfair Park on Bancroft Street. The 911 caller said there was a green passenger car driving on the soccer fields in the park. An officer arrived and observed a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed, doing abrupt turning maneuvers. The officer noted that the vehicle was damaging the playing surface of the soccer fields.  

Based on prior investigations, the officer knew repairing and/or replacing damaged turf at city parks costs thousands of dollars. While the officer called for backup, the vehicle exited the park and drove towards the officer through a small gap between a picnic shelter and shrubbery, then into the parking lot.  

The officer activated his emergency lights and siren. The vehicle did not stop and fled west through the parking lot at speeds of approximately 35 to 45 miles per hour. The parking lot dead-ends on the west side. The officer observed the vehicle driving up over the curb, going up a hill, driving over a sidewalk, and down a hill on the other side onto Stephens Avenue. The officer did not follow because he feared his patrol vehicle would be damaged or disabled.

Chase Through Missoula: Dangerous Maneuvers

Another officer located the vehicle at McDonald Avenue and Stephens Avenue. The officer activated his emergency lights and siren, continued the pursuit southbound on Stephens with speeds reaching approximately 75 mph, which is clearly more than the posted speed limit for that area. 

The vehicle continued to evade law enforcement. The officer observed the vehicle driving into the oncoming lane of traffic on Stephens. While approaching the intersection of Southwest Higgins and Stephens Avenue, the officer observed the vehicle going through a red light. The vehicle then attempted to make a left turn to head eastbound on Southwest Higgins.  

However, the vehicle crashed into the ditch in front of Romeos Italian restaurant. The driver exited the vehicle. The officer, along with other officers who arrived on scene, drew their firearms and ordered the driver to get on the ground. The driver complied and was taken into custody. The driver was identified as 18-year-old Mica Kantor.

Kantor was provided with his Miranda rights, but did not wish to talk further without a lawyer present. Kantor was taken to St. Patrick’s Hospital for medical clearance. Once medically cleared, he was transported to the Missoula County Detention Facility.  

The officer returned to the soccer fields and observed numerous ruts in the ground. The officer observed ruts on the corners and had the turf torn up, with pieces thrown about. Law enforcement is awaiting further follow-up from Missoula Parks and Recreation to determine the extent and cost to repair the damage. The investigation is ongoing. 

Kantor is currently being charged with felony aggravated fleeing from a peace officer, speeding, and failure to obey instructions of traffic control devices.
