Missoula County Sheriff’s Office Detectives have identified, and taken into custody, the suspect involved in the June 15, 2024, robbery at the Hellgate Trading Post. Public Information Officer Jeannette Smith explains.

"At approximately 9:16 p.m., on the evening of June 15, Missoula County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to a reported robbery at the Hellgate Trading Post, in the 6200 block of Mullan Road," Smith said. "A Deputy made a traffic stop near the location that same evening and use of the body-worn camera footage from the traffic stop led to the apprehension of the male suspect. The male suspect was taken into custody in Lake County this afternoon, without incident, and is being held in the Lake County Detention Facility."

Smith said the Missoula County Sheriff’s Office extends its appreciation to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in the apprehension of the suspect.  Missoula County Sheriff’s Office also appreciates the safety precautions taken by community members and providing information during the search for the suspect.

Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - At approximately 9:16 p.m., on June 15, 2024, Missoula County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to the Hellgate Trading Post in the 6200 block of Mullan Road for the report of a burglary. Public Information Officer Jeannette Smith has the details. 

“A male, dressed in all black, including a black hooded sweatshirt and black sunglasses, wearing a pink surgical mask, entered a business, obtained a large, bottled beverage, used it to injure the employee on duty, and then removed items from the register,” Smith said. “The male suspect exited the business and was last seen near Greenfield Mobile Court, on Mullan Road.” 

Smith said the suspect likely has injuries to his hands. If you see the individual or know their location, do not approach the individual and call 911 immediately.  

“We encourage residents to leave outdoor lights on and ensure all vehicles, residences, and outbuildings are locked,” Smith said. “If you have any information or see suspicious activity, call 911 immediately. Information can also be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers at 406-721-4444.”

According to Smith, the employee was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. She said this is an active investigation and that more details will be provided as they become available.
