Blackfeet Tribal officials say someone broke the lock on a tank that holds drinking water for Browning residents, who were temporarily ordered not to use the water until it is tested for possible contamination. Tribal communications director Wayne Smith says the 1 million gallon tank was tampered with some time Wednesday and the Environmental Protection Agency advised the city to enact a "do no use" order to be safe. The order was lifted Thursday, but residents are advised to boil their water before using it.Smith says there's no evidence anyone put anything in the water, and chemical tests Thursday were favorable. The tribe has purchased bottled water for residents. Browning schools, Head Start and Blackfeet Community College were closed Thursday due to a lack of usable water.
