Missoula Man Breaks Glass Bong Over His Husband’s Head
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On June 16, 2026, a Missoula Police Department Officer was dispatched to a disturbance in the area of 39th Street. Dispatch advised the caller had a bong broken over his head and was bleeding through a towel. Upon arrival, the officer met the caller, John Doe, at the front door.
Doe allowed officers into the residence, where he sat in a chair holding his head with a towel. The officer observed glass pieces on the living room floor. The officer also observed that Doe had a large laceration to the back of his head and multiple lacerations to his neck and shoulder. The officer and Doe went outside to wait for medical personnel.
Doe stated that he and his husband, 32-year-old Dalton Demars, had gotten into a verbal argument with each other. Doe stated that he turned away from Demars and started walking away when Demars threw a glass bong at his neck. Doe stated that the bong did not break. Then, Demars picked up the bong again, breaking it over Doe’s head and shattering the bong.

Medical personnel arrived and advised that Doe needed to be transported to the hospital for further evaluation and possible stitches. Doe accepted the transport and departed with medical personnel to Community Medical Center. Doe received 10 staples to the back of his head for the lacerations.
Another officer spoke with Demars, who advised that June 15 was their 2-year marriage anniversary, despite having been together for the last 14 years. Demars explained that there was no specific thing that prompted his actions but stated that, “It was mostly just a verbal argument, and I took it further than I needed to.” When asked how hard he believed he swung the bong at Doe’s head, Demars described the level of force being used as an 8 out of 10.
An officer placed Demars under arrest and transported him to the Missoula County Detention Facility. A detective was assigned to conduct a follow-up investigation and interviewed Doe. Doe advised that his pain was a “dull roar” and that he could not get comfortable. Doe stated that he had just arrived home from work to Demars being sloppy drunk. Doe said this upset him, and an argument ensued.

The detective asked Doe what stood out to him the most that he just cannot shake as he looks back on this incident. Doe replied, “I shouldn’t have pimp slapped him.” Doe said he believes he is to blame for Demars breaking the bong over his head. Doe expressed that Demars would not have done this if he had not slapped him. Doe confirmed that he was the individual who called 911 because he could not get the bleeding to stop.
Demars is currently being charged with felony assault with a weapon.
