‘The Avengers’ Makes Over $600 Million; Now Third Biggest Movie of All-Time
There’s no question — ‘The Avengers‘ is one of the biggest blockbuster hits to ever come out in theaters and nobody expected it to be as popular as it was. Fans went in droves and the film broke box office records left and right and it’s still going strong. How strong? How about $600 million domestic strong?
Disney just sent out the biggest high-five email blast, proud of the fact that today ‘The Avengers‘ is going to cross $600 million dollars domestically, putting it at #3 on the all-time domestic box-office gross list. Avatar is #1 with $760 million, Titanic is #2 with $658 million. So Avengers, if it’s re-released sometime in the future, could possibly pass Titanic. We’ll have to wait and see.
Here’s a bit from the press release:
Marvel’s The Avengers opened in North America May 4 with a staggering $207.4 million – the biggest domestic debut of all time – and has been shattering domestic box office records ever since including the industry’s all-time second weekend record with $103 million; fastest film to reach $200 million (3 days), $300 million (9 days), $400 million (14 days), and $500 million (23 days); and highest Saturday ($69.5 million) and Sunday ($57 million) totals. It is the #4 film of all time internationally with $838.9 million.
As you can see, comic book fans aren’t messing around when it comes to supporting their genre. OK, unless that genre involves ‘Ghost Rider’ or ‘The Punisher.’ With ‘The Dark Knight Rises‘ coming out July 20th, will it break the single day records set by ‘The Avengers?’ Can ‘The Avengers’ catch ‘Titanic’ and become the second biggest movie of all-time?
