Idaho Wolves Shot
An Idaho Department of Fish and Game official says aerial gunners have killed at least five wolves in north-central Idaho since Wednesday in an effort to protect elk herds but that the hunting has been halted due to a lack of success.

Hall Wins Heptathlon
University of Montana star Lindsey Hall won the Big Sky Conference heptathlon title Thursday, breaking the school record with 5,360 points.
The sophomore from Missoula broke the previous record of 5,299 set by Suzanne Krings in 2003. She also won the pentathlon in February in the conference indoor meet.

Vote to Come Soon On Wolf Quota
Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks commissioners are taking up a proposal to allow hunters to kill 220 wolves this year.
Commissioners will vote Thursday on whether to give tentative approval to the quota. If they do, the proposal will go out for public comment with a final decision by the commission scheduled for July 14.
Montana Census
New census data shows that Montana has gotten grayer.
The 2010 demographic data released Thursday shows Montana has 28,996 fewer adults under 45 than in 2000. That's a drop of more than 3 percent, with young adults now making up just 23.8 percent of the state's population.
Medicaid Cuts
A new report says the House Republican budget would leave up to 44 million more low-income people uninsured as the federal government cuts states' Medicaid funding by more than one-third over the next 10 years.
The study was issued Tuesday by two nonpartisan groups, the Kaiser Family Foundation and the Urban Institute.
Gun Rights Bill
Gov. Brian Schweitzer has vetoed a gun-rights bill that would allow concealed carry without a permit in Montana cities.
The veto came as the governor rejected another 15 bills Tuesday. He has now taken his red pen to more than 60 bills that came out of the Republican-led Legislature that adjourned last month.
Endangered Species
The Obama administration says it intends to work through a backlog of more than 250 imperiled animal and plant species over the next six years to decide if they need protection under the Endangered Species Act. Interior Department officials say Tuesday that the proposal stems from a court agreement with environmentalists.
