Two men were killed in a four-vehicle crash near Fort Benton, including an 88-year-old Great Falls man who started the chain of events by trying to pass a semi-trailer in a no-passing zone.

The Montana Highway Patrol says the Great Falls man was southbound on Highway 87 shortly after 5 p.m. Thursday when he tried to pass the semi. His car bounced off the semi and crashed head-on into a pickup driven by a 60-year-old Rudyard man. The Rudyard man and his female passenger were taken to the hospital in Great Falls, where the man died.

The pickup also collided with another car.

Officials say the driver of the semi and the occupants in the final car were not injured. The victims' names have not been released.
