18-Year-Old Man Charged In Pot Butter Case Sentenced

An 18-year-old man who gave pot-laced butter to a Missoula eighth-grader — who then allegedly made cookies with it and passed them out to several friends — has been given a three-year deferred sentence.

District Judge Dusty Deschamps sentenced Tyler Andre Pyle on Monday and ordered him to get a GED or high school diploma. Pyle also must pay fines, including a $300 public defender's fee.

He pleaded guilty in August to criminal distribution of dangerous drugs, a felony.

Prosecutors say a teacher at DeSmet School observed a group of students acting "spaced out" March 8. Court records say the four students told a sheriff's deputy they got the cookies from the eighth-grader, who in turn said she got the butter from Pyle.

Pyle is a registered medical marijuana patient.
