Firefighters have contained the 75 acre North Meadow Creek Fire located 12 miles NW of Ennis.  The human caused fire started approximately at 1 p.m. on Sun. Aug 28 in the North Meadow Creek area along the eastern front of the Tobacco Roots mountains.

Firefighters from the MT DNRC, Madison county Volunteer Fire Department  Stations 1 and 2; Beaverhead-Deerlodge NF, Harrison VFD, Virginia City VFD and Alder VFD worked together to contain the fire.  Additional assistance came from the Madison County Sheriff’s office to conduct evacuations of local area residents; Madison County Disaster and Emergency Services, Smokejumpers from West Yellowstone and three helicopters from DNRC (2) and US Forest Service.

While the fire burned mostly in grass and sagebrush, approximately 2/3 of the area burned was in timber.  Currently firefighters are improving fireline and extinguishing hotspots.  Officials anticipate the fire being controlled by  Wednesday  evening.
