A panel of lawmakers has agreed on a final version of a proposal to overhaul Montana’s medical marijuana industry. Senate Bill 423 will now go to the House, and Senate, for approval, and, if it passes, it will then go to Governor Brian Schweitzer. A conference committee of lawmakers from both chambers agreed  on what is expected to be the final version of the measure, carried by Senate Majority Leader Jeff Essmann.

The bill would do away with almost all of the State's medical marijuana businesses, and switch to a "grow-your-own" system. Lawmakers agreed to allow providers to grow the drug for up to three patients, and let patients cover provider registration fees.
