Woman who Rolled Car Downtown Saturday Released without Bail
Downtown Missoula on Saturday night was a dangerous place to be because a woman allegedly drove drunk and rolled her car near a popular bar.
According to court records, 65 year-old Patricia Goodell was driving on East Pine Street when she lost control and rolled her vehicle at 428 North Higgins Avenue near the entrance to Charlie B’s Bar. The driver had been traveling northbound when it struck a parking barrier and a bicycle stand and then turned over.
Police spokesman Travis Welsh provided more details.
“65 year-old Patricia Goodell was arrested for DUI and felony criminal endangerment and she appeared on Monday afternoon in Missoula Justice Court,” said Welsh. “The criminal endangerment charge is a felony due to the amount of foot traffic at the time of the crash.”
Court documents indicate that MPD Officer Smith said ‘there was a strong odor of alcohol emanating from Goodell’s breath and he had to assist her several times to keep her from falling over’. Officer Ferris asked Goodell if she had been drinking, to which she replied ‘of course’. She eventually told police she had been drinking tequila at a local bar and was driving home. The bartender followed her to a sandwich shop and told her she needed to call a cab, to which she replied ‘I’ve been doing this for 40 years’ and said she was OK.
Following her appearance via video from the Missoula County Jail on Monday, Deputy County Attorney Jen Clark said Goodell was released on her own recognizance and will have to undergo random alcohol monitoring.
There were no reported injuries from the rollover crash.
