The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for parts of eastern Idaho and northwest Montana due to the arrival of a wet weather system coming in from California.

Meteorologist Corby Dickerson said early Wednesday morning, that the main impact of the system will extend from about 5 p.m. Wednesday and last for approximately 24 hours.

"We have a very interesting scenario developing," Dickerson said. "We've had some cold temperatures for the last several days, however we're going to be expecting some moisture that has been affecting California to head this way. A small portion of that system will be making its way into Montana by this evening."

Dickerson said the initial effect will be snow, but will change to rain and freezing rain.

"As things start to warm aloft, we'll start to see a wintry mix. We'll see a mix of snow, freezing rain, sleet,  and ice pellets, which could make travel hazardous, especially during the Thursday morning commute," he said.

The winter weather advisory will extend from 5 p.m. Wednesday to 5 p.m. Thursday.
