The high waters we’re seeing around Western Montana are just the ‘tip of the iceberg’, according to Ray Nickless, chief hydrologist for the National Weather Service office in Missoula. I spoke with Mr. Nickless Monday afternoon about the current high water situations, including flood watches and warnings. He says the Bitterroot River is ‘flirting with flooding’ right now…but hopefully, the cooler weather will slow down the mountain snowpack. My interview with Mr. Nickless is attached.

Mr. Nickless says by late May and June, depending upon temperatures and rain, could bring moderate to major flooding to parts of Western Montana. Get up to day information on this website, or call the Missoula County Emergency Information line at 258-INFO, that’s 258-4636.
