Western Montana Buried in Snow – More Coming [AUDIO]
Sunday night into Monday morning, February 24. residents all over western Montana were anxiously watching the sky, waiting for a highly anticipated snow event. They were not disappointed.
According to the National Weather Service, this has been the snowiest February since1936. Meteorologist Trent Smith said the heaviest snowfall came to the Bitterroot Valley.
"In Stevensville and Florence, we had between 12 and 14 inches of snow," Smith said. "The biggest winner, though, was down in Darby where they had a report of 25 inches. In Hamilton, some areas reported 17 inches.16 inches were reported in Seeley Lake, seven inches reported in the Huson area and in Potomac they had 12 inches."
Smith said there may be a few more inches in store for the Missoula and Bitterroot valleys on Monday night. More inclement weather may be in store by the end of the week.
"We have another significant system that the models are trying to indicate from Friday into the weekend," Smith said. "Exactly how it could set up we're not quite sure yet, but we could have another arctic system coming in."
