Wanted Missoula Man Admits to Having Meth in His Pocket

Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On March 20, 2024, a Missoula Police Department Officer was on shift and patrolling the area near the PS Mini Mart on North Russell Street. The officer saw a male he knew from previous contacts, 39-year-old Duane Johnson. Then the officer discovered that Johnson had a warrant for his arrest out of Missoula Municipal Court.  

The officer contacted Johnson, advised him of the warrant, and arrested him. Before beginning a search incident to arrest, Johnson advised that he had methamphetamine in his pocket. The officer conducted a search incident to arrest and located a sandwich sized zipper style baggie with a large amount of crystalline substance the officer recognized as consistent with methamphetamine.  

Johnson was mirandized and admitted the substance was methamphetamine. According to court documents, Johnson stated the methamphetamine would last him a couple of weeks. Johnson was transported to the Missoula County Detention Facility.

The officer weighed both the baggie and the substance. The substance weighed roughly 17.7 grams. The officer conducted a NIK test resulting in a presumptive positive result for methamphetamine. 

Johnson is currently being charged with felony criminal possession of dangerous drugs.
