Trek For Homes In Nepal
On May 14th, 2017, four friends from Montana (Angela, Erin, Lauren, and Shaela) will do something a few of you might find as a little crazy: trek to Everest Base Camp. Yes, Base Camp, not the summit, but this is still quite a feat. In 8 days they will reach an elevation of ~18,000 feet and in 16 days will have trekked ~81 miles. So... why are they doing this? In addition to checking off a bucket list trip, they wanted to use this trip to do some good. Their goal is to raise enough funds to provide a new home for at least one family whose home has been destroyed.
Thangpalkot is one of many villages in Nepal that was destroyed by the April 2015 earthquake. Out of 92 homes in this village, only six were left standing. 86 homes were destroyed!! Can you imagine having your world turned upside down in a matter of minutes? People you loved are gone, your house is gone, you have no one to turn to, and you live in one of the poorest countries in the world. What do you do?
I'm sure you're wondering why this village? And how do I know if my money will be used properly? Well, last year Shaela was fortunate enough to spend a few months volunteering in Thangpalkot and will return there after the trek. So far to date, 13 houses have been rebuilt solely from private donors like YOU! They haven't received any other money or supplies except a few bags of rice from their government. One house costs approximately $2,000 to build. $2,000 to give a family a home! The people of Thangpalkot are so incredibly kind, caring, and perseverant but they need your help.
Every penny that we raise will go straight to the village. The girls are asking for any donation you can give, big or small, it will make a huge difference. You can help give a family back something that we all tend to take for granted, a roof over their head! If you are unable to donate, the girls ask that you please share their story.
To donate check out their Generosity page HERE!
