31 year-old Larry Davis, a long-haul trucker from Texas, is in the Missoula County Jail charged with Felony assault with a weapon, aggravated assault and strangulation of a female passenger in his truck.

According to court documents, Missoula County Sheriff’s deputies were called out to the River City Grill on Tuesday after a report of a disturbance in the parking lot.

Deputy Missoula County Attorney Mark Handelman related the facts of the case to Judge Marie Anderson as Davis appeared via video from the Missoula County Jail.

“The State will be requesting a $50,000 bond,” said Handelman. “The charged stem from the defendant and his girlfriend getting into an argument in his long-haul truck. He then struck her with a mallet which was recovered from the vehicle. He then strangled her to the point where she blacked out, as well as threatening to kill her and her unborn child. Being from Texas, he has no ties to this community.”

Handelman then went on to list the defendant’s criminal history.

“He has a 2008 conviction for aggravated robbery, in 2002 for criminal trespass and a 1998 conviction for indecent exposure,” he said. “Due to the fact that he has no ties to the community and the egregious nature of the charges, the state is asking for $50,000 bond.”

Brown’s public defender asked that he be released on his own recognizance, promising to return for all court appearances.

Judge Anderson set bail at $50,000 and remanded Brown back to the Missoula County Jail.

Felony aggravated assault and assault with a weapon carry possible maximum penalties of 20 years in prison with a $50,000 fine, while felony strangulation carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $50,000 fine.
