The 41 Complex of forest fires in the Sapphire Mountains east of Hamilton is mainly the Up Top Fire, which has now cross Skalkaho Highway on its way south. Of the total 3,700 acres, the Up Top Fire is 3,627 acres, while the 41 Fire is 105 acres and is 90 percent contained, according to Public Affairs Officer Tod McKay...
The 41 complex of fires grew by about 800 acres Tuesday, and Skalkaho Pass on Highway 36 remains closed because of fires burning on both sides of the highway. I spoke with Bitterroot National Forest Information Officer Todd McKay late Tuesday afternoon. That interview is attached.
The Saddle Fire Complex burning over the borders of Idaho and Montana has increased in size over the weekend, although officials are pleased that weather conditions have been in their favor. Firefighters are on the scene to six new lightning caused wildfires on the Bitterroot National Forest. All of the fires started last night and are burning in the West Fork Ranger District.
