The National Weather Service said early Veteran's Day morning that the south side of Missoula could have anywhere from 10 to 12 inches of heavy wet snow on the ground by 6:00 a.m.

Meteorologist Dan Zumpf had the details as of 3:00 a.m.

"We were expecting a few inches, but what we found was that the snowfall was a lot more efficient," said Zumpf. "It lasted a lot longer. In fact on the south side of town we're received reports that we've alreday gone over six inches. WE only have about two inches here at the airport, but there is another band of snow coming that could affect us all the way up to 6:00 a.m."

I was looking at our climatology for how much snow we would get in a winter and I'll tell you what, we're going to be approaching the half way point to a normal winter and it's not even Thanksgiving.

Zumpf said different parts of Missoula will be affected more than others.

"On the north side of the valley you'll probably see somewhere in the two to four inch range," he said. "If you're on the south end of the valley, you could be more like the eight to 10 inch range, so it's going to vary across the valley.":

Zumpf said Missoula is already approaching the average snow total for the entire winter.

"It's interesting, Peter," he said. "I was looking at our climatology for how much snow we would get in a winter and I'll tell you what, we're going to be approaching the half way point to a normal winter and it's not even Thanksgiving."

The Winter Storm Warning continues until 6:00 a.m.
