The Mayor of the town of Stevensville is quitting and according to Paul Luddington, he decided to resign because of a lack of trust in the town.

"I seem to have reached an impasse with the town council," said Luddington. "There has developed a basic lack of confidence or lack of trust between myself and the town council and it's really hard for me to be able to do the job of the mayor without the trust of the council."

Luddington says the issue of trust came to a head over his attempted appointment of a judge.

"I thought I had gotten consent from the council to appoint a new city judge," Luddington said. "Apparently they were unable to approve that consent. Based on the process that we use, I thought that was the best procedure of the town, the best option or the town, and they simply refused to consent to it. The judge I proposed is currently the Darby town judge and his name is Chee Burnside."

The Stevensville town council is expected to meet Thursday, April 14 to come up with an interim process on how to proceed without a mayor.
