Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - Wednesday morning, representatives from Charter Communications and Spectrum presented a $40,000 check to Opportunity Resources of Missoula.

I spoke to Danielle Dunn, Director of Communications at Charter Communications, the company that operates Spectrum products and services about the special presentation at Opportunity Resources.

Spectrum Presents $40,000 Grant to Missoula Opportunity Resources

“We presented Opportunity Resources with a $40,000 grant as part of our Spectrum Community Center Assist Program, which is one of our strategic philanthropic programs at our company, which aims to improve the physical condition of community centers in underserved rural and urban communities throughout our company's 41 state footprint,” began Dunn.

Dunn described the company's continued support over the years to Opportunity Resources.

“As it pertains to Opportunity Resources, our partnership with them began in 2022,” she said. “We initially provided them with a $50,000 grant, then another $50,000 grant in 2023, and this year we are giving $40,000, so the financial investment that we have made in Opportunity Resources has had a transformative impact on their job skills training program.”

Kurtis Mayne, Director of Personnel Services at Opportunity Resources provided a thumbnail description of the business in Missoula.

“We're a nonprofit organization that supports adults with disabilities,” began Mayne. “We were established in 1955 so we've been a long-standing member of the Missoula community, and we help people to find employment in the community. We help people with residential services. We also have a thriving therapy art program, and it's been an extreme blessing that we've had the support from Spectrum Community Assist.”

I spoke with Mayne about this week’s announcement from Governor Gianforte about the historic $300 million investment to the state’s services for those who are developmentally disabled.

“That will have a monumental impact on our ability to support the individuals in our services,” he said. “Something that you hear many organizations discuss is the challenges that we have hiring and retaining quality staff, and that funding will be instrumental in allowing us to hire and maintain good people so that we can provide the best services to the individuals that we serve.”

This is the third SCCA grant-supporting program that provides essential job-related services for individuals with disabilities to gain and maintain employment.
