Another Shooting Massacre
A shooting at a Sikh temple near Milwaukee left seven dead on Sunday, including the gunman. According to police reports, a gunman arrived outside the temple at around 10 AM and shot and killed two people. Afterward, the shooter walked inside the temple and fatally shot four others.
WTMJ-TV in Milwaukee reports the president of the temple in Oak Creek, WI, Satwant Singh Kaleka, is being treated for injuries he received during the shooting.
A police officer who was shot multiple times by the gunman is also being treated at an area hospital.
“Our officer, a 20-year veteran, was ambushed and shot multiple times,” Oak Creek Police Chief John Edwards said in a press conference held Sunday afternoon. “We expect him to recover.”
Another officer on scene shot and killed the gunman. “Because of the heroic actions of our officers, they stopped this from being worse than it could have been,” said Chief Edwards.
At this time, details about the gunman are unknown.
The shooting took place during a service with “many people at that location.” WTMJ-TV says the Sikh Society of Wisconsin will be “reaching out to the Oak Creek Temple during its time of need.”
“We’re treating this as a domestic terrorist type incident,” Chief Edwards said. “The FBI has the resources needed to help investigate that. The ATF is also involved with this, along with the Milwaukee Police Department.”
Chief Edwards will hold another press conference Monday morning, which will likely yield more details. “Right now, we’re just in the very beginning stages of this investigation,” he said.
