Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On December 15, 2024, a Missoula Police Department Officer responded to an automotive store on Reserve Street for a report of a disorderly male. Prior to this call for service, a 38-year-old male, Keil Monger, called 911 and requested a welfare check on a female at a motel.

Upon arrival at the automotive store, the officer was informed that the male had left on foot and was headed towards a car dealership. The officer responded to the dealership, where he observed a male waving his arms around. The officer recognized the male as Monger from previous encounters and prior booking photos.

The officer noted that he believed Monger was under the influence of illegal drugs, presumably methamphetamine. Monger was speaking rapidly, was very disorganized, and did not have shoes on despite the light snow and near-freezing temperatures.

While speaking with Monger, the officer noticed that he had a small spot of blood on his sweater and his hand. Monger said he broke a window at the dealership. A short time later, the officer observed a shattered window near the front entry of the dealership.

According to the officer, the window had multiple layers and was approximately 4 feet wide and 8 feet tall. Amongst the shattered glass, the officer observed a rearview mirror to a vehicle and a garbage can approximately 50 feet away. In front of the broken window, the officer observed a parked vehicle, which still had dealership placards affixed. The officer noticed the front passenger window was open and lights were flashing as if an alarm had been set off.

After Monger was medically cleared via EMS, the officer informed him that he was under arrest. Monger reported that no one was responding to help him, so he broke the window to the dealership. He said he did so in hopes that it would set off an alarm and was surprised when the alarm did not go off. Monger said he punched the window and later broke it with the garbage can.

Another officer also responded and inventoried the damage to the 2025 vehicle. Monger had completely broken and removed the vehicle’s rear-view mirror. He also broke the control lever for the windshield wiper.

Monger was transported to the Missoula County Detention Facility. He is currently being charged with felony criminal mischief, felony probation violation, and criminal trespass to vehicles. His bond was set at $5,000.
