Fatal Stabbing in Missoula Leads to Deliberate Homicide Charge

Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On July 7, 2026, the Missoula Police Department arrested 39-year-oldJeremy Means for deliberate homicide. Police Public Information Officer Whitney Bennett has the details.

"The Missoula Police Department extends its condolences to the family and friends of the victim during this difficult time," Bennett said. "We recognize the impact this loss has on those who knew him, and our thoughts are with everyone affected."

Just after 2:30 a.m., Bennett said officers were dispatched to the 500 block of North California Street following reports of an adult male with stab wounds.

"Officers and emergency medical personnel immediately began life-saving efforts at the scene before the victim was transported to a local hospital," Bennett said. "Despite those efforts, the victim succumbed to his injuries. MPD Detectives believe this was an isolated incident and that the victim and suspect were known to one another. There is no known ongoing threat to the public."

Just before 9:30 a.m., the Missoula Police Department Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) attempted to locate the suspect, identified as 39-year-old Jeremy Means, at a residence in the 500 block of West Spruce Street.

"Means was not located at the residence," Bennett said. "Out of an abundance of caution, a shelter-in-place was issued for the immediate area while officers conducted their operations."

Just before 1:30 p.m., a Missoula Police detective assigned to the FBI Montana Regional Violent Crimes Task Force located Means in the 800 block of Wyoming Street.

"Means was taken into custody," Bennett said. "Means has been remanded to the Missoula County Detention Facility on a charge of Deliberate Homicide. The Missoula Police Department would like to acknowledge the coordinated efforts of the Missoula County Sheriff's Office and the Montana Highway Patrol during the initial response to this incident and the subsequent search for the involved parties."
