Seriously? Snow May Already be Making Its Way to Missoula

Missoula’s weather has been fairly pleasant the past few days, but it looks like that is going to change sooner rather than later. According to Meteorologist Luke Robinson, a transition to cold, snowy weather is on the way for next week.

“We are tracking a fairly strong low-pressure system dropping south out of British Colombia,” Robinson said. “Some of our mountain locations in western Montana could see some snow as early as Sunday evening. We are looking at mountain snow fall across western Montana continuing through at least Tuesday morning or Tuesday afternoon.”

Robinson said some of the valleys in Missoula and Ravalli County could see some light snow fall as well.

“Right now, there are a lot of uncertainties for the valleys themselves, but I wouldn’t count out a few snowflakes,” Robinson said. “There is a very low chance that any of the valleys will see any accumulating snowfall, but a few flakes are a good possibility. Behind this storm system, we are looking at some potential pretty cold morning lows. There could be some lows in the low 20s sometime mid-week next week.”

Those temperatures are still a week or so away, but it is never too early to prepare. Robinson said now would be a good time for folks to winterize their irrigation systems.

He also said they aren’t concerned about any slick roads in the valley, but they are keeping an eye on the passes.

“The only locations where we might see some slick roads would be at the passes,” Robinson said. “Homestake Pass, Lost Trail, and maybe even Lolo Pass, those are the areas that we are keying in on for potential road impacts.”
