Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On January 22, 2024, at approximately 9:20 AM, a Missoula Police Department Officer was contacted by Montana Probation and Parole regarding a request for assistance. Probation and Parole were conducting a probation search of 22-year-Tristan Holdsambeck’s residence. Upon arrival, the officer was greeted by Probation Officers who stated that they had located what they believed to be psilocybin mushrooms in the residence.

The officer knew from training and experience that psilocybin mushrooms were a Schedule 1 narcotic. The officer entered the residence and located the sole occupant, Holdsambeck, who had been placed into handcuffs before his arrival. The Probation Officers pointed the officer to the location of the substance. Based on his training and experience, the officer believed the substance was psilocybin mushrooms.

The officer advised Holdsambeck of his Miranda Rights. Holdsambeck stated he understood and was willing to waive his rights. Holdsambeck stated that the substance discovered by law enforcement was psilocybin mushrooms. Holdsambeck added that he lived alone in the apartment and that the mushrooms were his.

According to court documents, Holdsambeck estimated that there was approximately an "8th" referencing the amount of mushrooms and that he purchased them from a high school associate for twenty-five dollars.

Holdsambeck was subsequently arrested and transported to the Missoula County Detention Facility without further issue. The officer seized the mushrooms, transported them to the Missoula Police Department Evidence Holding Facility, and logged them into evidence pending transport to the Montana State Crime Lab for chemical analysis.

Holdsambeck is currently being charged with felony criminal possession of dangerous drugs. According to the Missoula Jail, Holdsambeck’s bond was set at $75,000.
