Prescribed Burning Planned For Wednesday and Thursday [AUDIO]
Weather permitting, the Nine Mile Ranger District is planning two prescribed burns for Wednesday and Thursday, October 8 and 9.
Spokesman Boyd Hartwig said the first prescribed burn is scheduled for the south fork of the Fish Creek drainage.
"It's about 24 miles up Fish Creek drainage," Hartwig said. "It's a location near White Mountain, south of I-90 about 800 acres in two different burn locations. The intent of that burn is to reduce some hazardous fuels, but also to promote new vegetation. We're doing that one in conjunction with the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, so it's a good elk habitat revegetation project."
Hartwig described the second prescribed burn.
"The second one is quite a bit smaller, only about 80 acres," he said. "It's in the Corral Creek drainage about five miles southwest of Frenchtown Pond, but on the south side of I-90, and that's a hazardous fuel reduction project."
Hartwig said some smoke will be visible from the highway during the prescribed burns.
