Popular Forest Service Trail Closed Due to Timber Work
The logging operations at the Westside and Little Jumper timber sales are requiring the closure of Coyote Coulee Trail #127 and #511 on the Bitterroot National Forest south of Hamilton.
A news release from the Darby/Sula Ranger District also advised motorists to use caution on area roads around Lost Horse and Roaring Lion canyons because of truck and heavy equipment traffic. That includes roads #496 and #429.
The harvests include about 1,200 acres of overstocked land in that area and the goals are to improve forest health and reduce hazardous fuels southwest of Hamilton. The project includes prescribed fires for fuel reduction.
Closure signs and maps are posted at the Coyote Coulee trailhead parking area. More information is at the Bitterroot National Forest Facebook page.
